How to shoot photography in Raw

June 8, 2010 · Filed Under General

Shooting images with the RAW capture setting on a digital single lens reflection camera provides an indispensable extra level of image control, thereby allowing you to revamp a photography completely, if you wish, on your computer at a later date.

The Advantage of shooting RAW

You have shot all your images , downloaded the RAW files , you can now make the selection from them to find those that you want to process into canvas art. As RAW images don’t undergo any in camera processing, unlike JPEGs, which have compression and other parameters applied, depending on how the camera is set, RAW images can be thought of as film negatives in a digital version – they contain the raw image data before you have gone the processing area (or, in this case, the computer) to get the final print. The key advantage of working with RAW images is that you can process them later on a computer, each and every aspect of them can be adjusted , if necessary adding colour saturation, exposure, sharpness and brightness, taking into accounts for vignetting characteristics of of your camera .

Manipulating RAW files in Photoshop

Although the following information relate to Photoshop , bear in mind that most other image manipulation software, whether it’s provided by the cameras manufacturers or by third-party developers, should operate in a similar manner
1)Open your folder of images in the software package , this will load all the images in the folder from which you can choose

2) Double – click on the image of your choice which you would like to adjust in your sector.

3) Use the sliders to make any necessary changes; adjusting White Balance, increasing exposure etc. The changes you make cannot damage your RAW file your RAW file will not be damaged by any changes made , so you can be more extreme than with a JPEG. the eyedropper tool will fine-tune the white, fey and black points of your exposure

4) Change other settings, such as sharpness, lens vignetting adjustments, individual saturation and hue. Click on the relevant tab and make the changes , click preview.

5)Once you are happy click ok.

6)Images can be greatly improved by adjustments made in Photoshop in RAW

Once you have created these images in a RAW format the next option would be to get the photographys printed in some manner, possibly as photos on canvas or canvas prints.  An excellent place to do this would be at Canvas Prints Online
